1860 - The first successful aerial photograph in the U.S. was taken over Boston by James Wallace Black in a balloon, 'The Queen of the Air'  with Samuel Archer King as navigator, held by a cable 1,200 feet above the city.

1868 - Thomas Edison executed his first parent of  an “Electrographic Vote-Recorder,” the first of its kind, which he designed for use by legislative bodies, such as the U.S. Congress, who would have been enabled to vote for or against an issue by turning a switch to the right or left.

1884 - Greenwich was adopted as the universal meridian.

1914 - Garrett Morgan invented and patented a gas mask, a breathing device consisting of a canvas hood placed over the head.

1953 -  The first U.S. patent for a burglar alarm operated by ultrasonic sound was issued to Samuel Bagno of New York City on a system for movement detection in a confined space by intruders or fire.

1781 - A treaty was singed between the Britishers and ruler of Gwalior, Scindia.

1792 - 1st Old Farmer's Almanac is published. (It is a reference book that contains weather forecasts, tide tables, planting charts, astronomical data, recipes, and articles on a number of topics, including gardening, sports, astronomy, and farming).

1924 - Mecca falls without struggle to Saudi forces led by Abdulaziz Ibn Saud, founder of Saudi Arabia.

1240 - Raziya Sultan, first lady ruler of Delhi throne, passed away in a battle.

1987 - Kishore Kumar, well known actor and singer.

A statement released by Louis-Georges Arsenault, UNICEF Representative to India states,  "One in three rape victims is a child. More than 7,200 children including infants are raped every year; experts believe that many more cases go unreported. Given the stigma attached to rapes, especially when it comes to children, this is most likely only the tip of the iceberg.”
