The Power of Now

Do you find yourself looking back and wishing you had done things differently?
Do you wish you had cultivated the reading habit as a child so you'd be a better-read person today? Do you wish you had played a sport and stayed with it beyond college, so you would be a fitter person today? Do you wish you had gone easy on sweets and on food so you wouldn't be an obese diabetic today? Do you wish you had told your parents and your spouse and your kids how much you loved them?
Or are you the kind of person who constantly sees things changing in the future? I will give up sweets - after Diwali. Or, once we finish the Annual Business Plans, I will spend more time with the family. Or once I have that magic number in my bank account, I will quit and do what I have always wanted to.
Well, in either case, it might be good to remember the wisdom contained in an old Chinese proverb: "The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now!"
The second best time is indeed now. The best time might appear to be yesterday - or tomorrow - but now is a terrific second-best - and it's up to us to make the most of now!
Business gurus and spiritual leaders have all talked about the power of now. The power of living in the present - versus the futility of living in a past that's gone - or dreaming of an imaginary future!
Often, our excuse for not taking action is either that the best time has passed - or is still to come. And our quest for the 'right time' helps mask our lethargy, and fuels our tendency to procrastinate.
Success comes to those who live in the present, who seize the moment.
So whatever it is that you wish to do, do it today. Now. Make use of the second best time. Remember, it's never too late to become what you might have been.
Want to learn a new skill? Start today. Want to lose weight? Start that 45 minute daily walk - today! Want to have better relationships? Reach out and hug your loved ones - today. Whatever it is you want, make a beginning. Today.
Today is the tomorrow you thought of yesterday. Today is the yesterday you will look back longingly at - tomorrow. This might sound somewhat philosophical, but it's for real! When you start living in the present, that's when you unleash the power that's inside you.
As the Nike guys have been urging an entire generation, 'Just do it'. Right now!
And sure enough, twenty years from today, you'll be glad you planted that tree!
Here's wishing you and the entire family a peaceful, healthy & a prosperous 2016!

Let's Wish Happy New year

Imagine a 20-something colleague of ours slogging 16 hrs a day, 7 days a week, rarely taking a holiday, living out of a suitcase at least 20 days a month across time-zones, speaking on diverse subjects, handling difficult negotiations with vendors and clients, facing merciless scrutiny of competitors, media and jealous colleagues waiting for him to make ONE tiny mistake; and yet, staying calm, composed and never asking for empathy, praise or pay-raise.

Such a colleague would be rated a top performer, a darling of the organisation, touted as a role model and put on a pedestal.

This gent Modi is doing pretty much all of the above, for one of the most complex organisations in the world, called the Republic of India.
He's doing it at 65 when most of his contemporaries are respected Dadajis, into the 5th year of a salubrious retired life, enjoying a leisurely morning walk, playing with grandkids, giving gyan to the neighbourhood maali,  bemoaning what India has come to, but generally having a good time. Most other PMs and Presidents are in their 40s and 50s and the stress of unlimited public expectations is already showing on them.

Let's mock Modi, condemn him, be perpetually unhappy with him, coz after all, he's a politician and we have the birthright to do so.

We are the highly demanding shareholders, employers cum clients of Modi who demand results, not mere hard work. It's another matter that the last time we put in a 16 hour-day (probably 5 times in our entire existence), we made sure everyone right up to our CEO knew.

We can't reform a damn department, company or our mohalla in 18 months but we expect Modi to turn around a large, complex, divided and irritated country overnight.

This 31st Dec, let's just pause for a minute, keep aside our hatred, disdain and cynicism towards Modi and wish him a happy new year. Just for trying.

Swatch bharat Abhiyan : Ek Kadam Swatchata ki aur

Today 02 Oct, great day in Indian History, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri (Birthday) Jayanti. Shastriji Said, “Jai Jawan!!  Jai Kisan!! ”.  Bapuji said, “Quit India!! Clean India!!”.  We got freedom but, developed and Clean India dream is yet to be accomplished. India is starting Swatchha Bharat Abhiyan from Today. “Ek Kadam Swatchhata ki Aur”, which aims at creating a 'Clean India' in the next five years. This means "It is our duty that I will clean the country to serve Mother India. I will remain conscious about sanitary practices and devote time for that. I will devote 100 hours every year meaning two hours every week for reaching this goal".
Let’s appreciate for those who has taken cleanliness oath, "I will start the cleanliness drive from myself, my family, my neighbourhood and my workplace. I believe that countries which are clean because their citizens believe in sanitary practices. The pledge that I am taking, I will administer to 100 others. I will try that those 100 also work towards hygiene and sanitation,"
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Let’s join together and Make clean India, Great India.
Ek Kadam Swatchata ki aur.
