7th Pay Commission – UP Transport Corporation employees Showing the Route – will NJCA follow it

7th Pay CommissionA section of UP Transport Corporation employees are set to move the court seeking implementation of pending 7th Pay Commission recommendations. The Central Workshop Karamchari Sangh has given a 15-day notice to the government, seeking fulfillment of their demands with immediate effect. According to a report, the union has confirmed that it would take the legal route if government fails to act in the next 15 days.

For the past several months, members of Central Workshop Karamchari Sangh has been urging the government to implement their list of demands, including the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations, providing equal wage for same job, weeding out illegal private buses of transport and cracking down on the alleged corruption within the corporation.

The action taken by Transport Corporation employees exerts pressure on central government employee unions to escalate their protest against Centre. The unpopulist report of 7th Pay Commission, along with the delay in allowances hike, has disturbed a major section of central government employees.

Will NJCA appeal in the court?

The National Joint Council of Action (NJCA), leading the plight of aggrieved central government employees, has held several round of discussions with the Centre. However, no positive result has emerged from the meeting yet. Despite NJCA stressing on revision of minimum salary, from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000, as centrifugal demand, the government has failed to pay heed.

Although the NJCA cannot drag the government to court over non-revision of minimum salary, it may take the legal route over continued delay in the hike of allowances.

Due to anomalies raised by unions, government had deferred the allowances hike. Although the Committee of Secretaries to consider the unions’ demand was formed in July, no action has been taken yet.

While speaking to India.com, NJCA convenor Shiv Gopal Mishra stressed that “massive” action would be taken if Centre fails to implement the allowance hike from April 1. “It is likely that they could implement the hike in allowances from April 1. If not, we will take massive action. We are ready to launch protest,” he said.

Mishra also underlined that NJCA could call for nationwide strike if the minimum salary is not revised, and arrears on allowances are not provided to central government employees. “What is the due of employees should be given. We are disappointed with the government. Pessimism has gripped us. But massive protest would be launched if they fail to take our demands into consideration,” he added. However, NJCA has not indicated whether they would move to court if their demands are not met by the Centre.
