As part of the annual Navy Day celebrations, the Indian Navy has thrown open its doors to the public on Saturday and Sunday for two weeks, so that they can visit two of its frontline warships – Indian Naval Ship (INS) Delhi and Tarkash. "INS Delhi and Tarkash will be open to the public between 10am and 3pm on two weekends, i.e. on November 14, 15, 21 and 22, as part of the Navy Day 2015 celebrations," said Indian Navy spokesperson  ommander Rahul Sinha. Entry to the ships will be provided from the Tiger Gate near Ballard Estate for a guided tour of the ships, without any fee.
"Visitors are advised not to bring mobile phones with camera, cameras, bags or baggage for security reasons," said the spokesperson. Commissioned in 1997, INS Delhi was the first ship designed in India itself, with 6,700 tons guided missile destroyers. It is a multipurpose command and control platform capable of operating in a multi-threat environment. It carries two Sea King helicopters, capable of both anti-Submarine as well as anti-surface operations.

INS Tarkash was commissioned on November 12, 2012. Tarkash remains one of the latest platforms for the IndianNavy and is a work horse for the Western Fleet. Its weapon package includes surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, advanced torpedo launchers, anti-missile defence system and 100mm gun. It is thus capable of accomplishing a wide variety of naval missions, primarily finding and eliminating enemy submarines and large surface ships.
