On this Day 04 Jan - Raj Kadyan

The first to apologize is the bravest. The first to forgive is the strongest. The first to forget is the happiest.

The event was a public spectacle to a paying audience of 1500 people at Coney Island, where the elephant had been kept on show. Edison was the consultant chosen to arrange the electrocution death after cyanide-laced carrots had failed.

The Sputnik (meaning “companion” or “fellow traveller”) circled the earth every 95 minutes at almost 20,000 miles per hour, 500 miles above the Earth. The 184-lb satellite had transmitted a radio signal picked up around the world, and instrumentation for temperature measurement.

Surviving dust storms, it far outlasted its expected useful life. (A twin robot rover, Opportunity, landed three weeks after Spirit on the other side of the planet).
