Dear Veterans,
Please beware of rapidly spreading Eye flu. It is a type of infectious disease affecting your eyes due to virus or bacteria. Eye flu is rising due to recent flood and climate change.
Protect yourself and others by practicing good hygiene, washing hands frequently and avoiding touching your eyes. If you experience symptoms like redness, itchiness, or discharge, seek medical attention ASAP.
Symptoms:
· There could be redness, swelling of lids and itchy eyes.
· Yellow or watery discharge may be present.
· There may be sticky eyelids.
Treatment of conjunctivitis:
· Use eye wipes to clean the eyes.
· Don’t rub your eyes.
· Use Protective / dark goggles.
· Avoid contact lens use.
· Avoid using home remedies or self prescription.
· Consult your doctor before using any drops in your eyes.
· Consult an Ophthalmologist if you develop blurring of vision, increase in severity of symptoms or develop eye flu after recent eye surgery.
Prevention:
· Wash your hands frequently with soap.
· Wear protective goggles / avoid touching eyes.
· Wash your eyes with clean water.
· Don’t share towels, handkerchief, bedsheets etc of the infected person.
· Keep your environment clean.
