Attended Sainik Aakrosh Rally at Jantar Mantar to day 13 Dec 15
It was my first ever visit to JM. Rally was well attended.
Conservative estimate strength of over 35,000 ESM & their families from 26 different states of the country. Maximum visible strength was from Punjab, HP & Haryana though ESM could be identified from states of Uttarakhand, Maharashtra,Jammu Region of J& K & UP not forgetting those from NCR. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib as usual provided LANGAR (Lunch) for this large gathering apart from providing Night Stay arrangements for veterans from other states.
Media was present but in small numbers. No OB vans for live telecast. Wonder what will be covered by them for obvious reasons. Learnt that print media had declined to print advertisement for the Aakrosh Rally on 12 Dec. Salient decisions taken by veterans by voice vote/ raising of hands are as under:-
1. As Govt is yet to nominate Gen VK Singh as mediator as agreed upon during last meeting with RM,it was decided to give another 15 days to Govt to do so.
2. If nothing is done by then , the Govt be given an ultimatum of 7 days to come out with revised notification after addressing the seven anomalies already pointed out & given RM.
3. If still nothing is done then agitation to be taken to next level within the parameters of the constitution.
4. All ESM agreed to abstain from participating in coming Republic Day Parade ,if Govt does not accord priority to the cause.
I met Maj Gen Satbir Singh for the first time ever. From the little interaction with the Gen, I found him much more than my expectations. I found him to be absolutely clear in his mind with concern for Jawans & widows to be most important. Found him totally in command of the situation , forceful & firm but above all down to earth and humble. Sending some photographs of Aakrosh Rally.
