On this day - Lt Gen Raj Kadyan

To say, "I will be ready when I am perfect"  is no different from saying, "I will never be ready."

On this day 12 Dec....

1896 - Guglielmo Marconi gave the first public demonstration of his radio equipment in London. He was introduced by William Preece, chief electrician.  While Marconi tapped the key on the transmitter, Preece carried the receiver box around the room showing that there were no wires yet a bell in the receiver rang each time Marconi closed the key.

1899 -  An early U.S. patent for a golf tee was issued to George F. Grant, a dentist of Boston.   The design was for "a simple, cheap, and effective tee for use in the game of golf, obviating the use of the usual conical mounds of sand." He didn't market his tees, but gave some away.

1901 -  Guglielmo Marconi sent the first transatlantic radio signal from Poldhu in Cornwall, which was received by Percy Wright Page in St John's, Newfoundland.

1912 - The earliest known experiment to produce an airplane ejection seat was conducted by Odolek, an Austrian inventor. But it was not until 1941 that the first successful design was produced by Heinlel, a German company. A test pilot made the first emergency use of the ejection seat on 13 Jan 1943.

1953 - An aircraft first reached the speed of 2-1/2 times the speed of sound. Chuck Yeager established the record flying a Bell X-1A. On this flight, the first ever instance of inertia-coupling (then called "high-speed instability") occurred. The airplane tumbled violently - about all three axes - at more than 40,000 feet before Yeager was able to begin to recover to wings-level, stable flight. This was a terrifying incident in which the skill of the pilot saved his life and the aircraft.

1955 - Christopher Cockerell, father of the hovercraft air-cushion vehicle, filed his first patent for the hovercraft. The concept was based on reducing the problem of hydrodynamic drag on the hull of a boat by using air as lubrication.

1961 - Portuguese civilians are evacuated amid fears of an Indian troop invasion at Goa, Daman and Diu.

1965 - Vijayanta, first India-made millitary tank, was handed over to the Army.

1971 - All the facilities and pocket money provided to the former kings were cancelled by the Indian Parliament.

1971 - The first aerial victory was when IAF  MiG-21  shot down a PAF F-104 over the Gulf of Kutch. This was followed by three more victories in quick succession on 17 December, when MiG-21 shot down intercepting F-104s near Uttarlai in the Rajasthan desert in gun-missile encounters, while a third F-104, on an intruding mission, was shot down by another MiG 21.

1980 - Leonardo daVinci's 36-sheet manuscript Codex Leicester was auctioned at Christie's for $4.5 million. At the time, it was the highest price paid for a complete manuscript. Written in 1506-10, it embraces a wide variety of topics, from astronomy to hydrodynamics, and includes Leonardo's observations and theories on various topics.

1996 - India and Bangladesh arrive at a settlement to share Ganga water.

Born....

1905 - Mulkraj Anand, Indo-Anglian novelist and critic of international repute.

1950 - Rajnikanth, film actor.

1959 - Krishnammachari Srikkanth, cricketer.

1981 - Yuvraj Singh, cricketer.

Good morning have a nice day.
