भारतीय हद्दीतून पाकिस्तानी नौका जप्त

अमृतसर - भारतीय हद्दीत घुसलेली पाकिस्तानी एक नौका सीमा सुरक्षा दलाने (बीएसएफ) मंगळवारी ताब्यात घेतली. पंजाबमधील अमृतसर जिल्ह्यात रावी नदीत ही रिकामी नाव निदर्शनास आली होती. दोन दिवसांपूर्वी तटरक्षक दलाने गुजरातमधून एक पाकिस्तानी नौका जप्त केली होती.

प्राथमिक चौकशीत या नौकेवर काहीही संशयास्पद आढळले नसल्याचे "बीएसएफ‘चे संचालक के. के. शर्मा यांनी सांगितले. दहशतवाद्यांनी उरीतील लष्करी तळावर केलेला हल्ला व भारताने पाकव्याप्त काश्‍मीवर केलेल्या "सर्जिकल‘ हल्ल्यानंतर दोन्ही देशांमध्ये तणावपूर्ण वातावरण आहे. त्यामुळे सीमेवरील सुरक्षा कडक करण्यात आली आहे. या पार्श्‍वभूमीवर रावी नदीवरील आंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा ओलांडून पाकिस्तानची नौका वाहत येथे आल्याचे "बीएसएफ‘चे पंजाब विभागाचे उपमहानिरीक्षक आर. एस. कटारिया यांनी सांगितले. या नौकेत काहीही नव्हते. पाण्याची पातळी वाढल्याने तिचे नांगर सुटून ती भारतीय हद्दीत आल्याची शक्‍यता त्यांनी वर्तविली.

दरम्यान, जम्मू-काश्‍मीरमधील बारामुल्ला येथे "बीएसएफ‘च्या छावणीत झालेल्या "मैत्रीपूर्ण गोळीबारा‘त एक जवान मारला गेल्याचे वृत्त कटारिया यांनी फेटाळून लावले. हा हल्ला रात्री उशिरा झाला. त्या वेळी दाट काळोख असल्याने गोळीबार कोठून झाला, हे सांगणे अवघड आहे.

Admiral Lanba takes over as Chief of Naval Staff

New Delhi: Admiral Sunil Lanba today took over as the new Chief of Naval Staff and vowed to ensure that the maritime domain of the country is safe and secure.

Admiral Sunil Lanba today took over as the new Chief of Naval Staff.

58-year-old Lanba, a specialist in Navigation and Direction, will have the full three-year tenure as the Navy Chief.

He succeeded Admiral R K Dhowan who retired.

"It is indeed an honour and a privilege for me to take over the command of the Indian Navy, one of the finest in the world," he said, adding that over the years, the Navy has turned into a modern and combat ready force capable of operating in all three dimensions.

"The men and women who man the Navy are professionally trained, committed and patriotic and are committed to ensuring that our national interest are safeguarded anywhere, anytime and everywhere," he said.

An alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, Lanba is the 21st Indian to be the Navy Chief. The first two were British.

Coming in with rich operational and staff experience in a career spanning more than three decades, Lanba has served as Navigating Officer of corvette INS Sindhudurg and frigate INS Dunagiri.

He has commanded four frontline warships -- INS Kakinada (minesweeper), INS Himgiri (frigate) and INS Ranvijay and INS Mumbai, both destroyers.

He is also an alumnus of the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, where he has served as a faculty.

Lanba has also held key staff assignments such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and the Chief of Staff, Southern and Eastern Naval Commands.

He was also the Flag Officer Sea Training, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Naval Area and Commandant, National Defence College.

He was the Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command at Kochi, prior to being appointed to head the Western Naval Command. He took over as the Vice Chief on June 2, 2014.

Admiral Lanba is a recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal and the Athi Vishist Seva Medal for distinguished service.

Rear Admiral (Retd.) Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji, met Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today.
The Prime Minister expressed his condolences for the loss of life in Fiji due to the Category 5 Cyclone Winston, which struck Fiji on 20 February 2016. The Prime Minister said that India stood ready to provide all possible assistance to Fiji in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked the Prime Minister for the US$ 1 million assistance and 45 tonnes of relief material provided by India in the immediate aftermath of the cyclone.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment made at the 2nd FIPIC Summit in Jaipur in August 2015, to strengthen cooperation in Disaster Management with all Pacific Island countries, including through the establishment of a Space Technology Applications Centre for the region.
The two leaders also discussed avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in solar and renewable energy, agriculture, education and health.

It is intimated that PCDA(P) Allahabad circular No. 555 dated 04 Feb 2016 has been issued based on the Govt of India, Ministry of Defence letter No. 12 (1)/2014/D(Pen/Policy)-Part-II dated 03 Feb 2016 regarding One Rank One Pension to the Defence Forces personnel. In accordance with ibid letter, the Govt has authorised the Pension Disbursing Agencies to revise the pension/ family pension of all eligible defence personnel without calling any application or any other authorization. Therefore, issuance of revised/ corrigendum PPOs for payment of revised rate of pension/ family pension is not required.
