Jalandhar: About 500 ex-servicemen were placed in various job-profiles in different companies at an employment-cum-placement mela at Dholewal Military station, Ludhiana, organized by the Vajra Corps of Indian Army. It was aimed at benefiting the ex-soldiers of Punjab and neighbouring states.

More than 40 renowned private companies and industries of the state including JCT, Hero Cycles, Avon Cycles participated in the event and recruited ex-servicemen for various job profiles.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Lt Gen K J Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, assured that such events would be organised at various other locations also in the state in the coming months. He also emphasized the fact that it was beneficial for both the sides as the industry would get disciplined and dedicated manpower retired from armed forces while the veterans would get an opportunity for a second career after hanging the uniform.

The General Officer also stressed the need for the industry to understand and appreciate various roles that a veteran goes through during his service career, which include that of a manager, supervisor, inventory holder and many more at various levels. He said that this event was the fructification of a long held vision which would only grow with time and provide a common platform for the veterans as well as the industry in many other forms in future.
