On this day - Lt Gen Raj Kadyan

An attitude of positive expectation is the mark of a superior personality.
On this day, 25 Oct....

1854 - Charge of Light Brigade, 409 die. (It was a charge of British light cavalry led by Lord Cardigan against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. Lord Raglan, overall commander of the British forces, had intended to send the Light Brigade to pursue and harry a retreating Russian artillery battery, a task well-suited to light cavalry. Due to miscommunication in the chain of command, the Light Brigade was instead sent on a frontal assault against a different artillery battery, one well-prepared with excellent fields of defensive fire. The assault ended with very high British casualties and no decisive gains. The events are best remembered as the subject of the poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Published just six weeks after the event, its lines emphasize the valour of the cavalry in bravely carrying out their orders, regardless of the obvious outcome).

1911 - London's last horse drawn omnibus made its way from London Bridge Station to Moorgate.

1955 - Tappan Stove Company sells first microwave oven,  priced at $1295. (Defence companies were the leading manufacturers of microwave ovens; the technology was first used for radar in the

1940s. In the 1960s, defence company Litton Industries re-engineered the devices, allowing for a shorter, wider shape that more easily fit on kitchen countertops. In 1967, Raytheon introduced the first popular home model the countertop Radarange, priced at $495. American self-taught engineer Percy Spencer was working at Raytheon at the time. While running tests on the equipment, he noticed that the Mr Goodbar candy bar he had in his pocket started to melt. The radar had melted his chocolate bar with microwaves. The first food to be deliberately cooked with  microwave was popcorn. The second food to be cooked was an egg, which exploded in the face of one of the experimenters).
