Indian Army schedules flag meeting with Pakistani forces, ceasefire violations to be discussed
NEW DELHI: In light of intensifying ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, the Indian Army is shifting focus from the international border with Pakistan and has scheduled a flag meeting between officers of both the armies at Chakan Da Bagh in the Poonch sector on Monday.
According to the official Army spokesperson, India will express concern over the spate of violations along the LoC in the past weeks at the brigade commander level talks between the armies.
"The ceasefire violations had escalated in the last few days and had resulted in a large number of civilian causalities and collateral damage to properties. The field commanders from both the sides will discuss the modalities to defuse the tense situation."

The last high-level meeting of brigadiers was held almost a year ago, following the killing of five jawans in the Krishna Ghati area, which resulted in heavy firing across the LoC.
The move comes after the Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers held talks in New Delhi from September 9 to 13 to highlight incessant firing and civilian casualties on the Jammu stretch of the border. At the meeting between the BSF and the Rangers, a number of measures were suggested to control incidents of firing across the international border. The border has seen a period of peace after this meeting. However, there has been heavy firing along the LoC, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the exchange and targeting civilians. Officials hope this meeting will result in calm in the areas of Balakote and Poonch.
