Glad Modi implemented OROP: Ex-servicemen

VADODARA: Ex-servicemen from Gujarat on Sunday appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for agreeing to implement their demand for One Rank One Pension (OROP). The Akhil Bharatiya Purva Sainik Seva Parishad (ABPSS) and Purva Sainik Seva Parishad (PSSP), Gujarat said there were certain queries pending over OROP and they too will be resolved.

"Prime Minister Modi had promised to implement OROP and he has fulfilled it within 18 months of his coming to power. Former prime minister Indira Gandhi had done away with OROP despite many ex-servicemen opposing her move. We are glad that the present government respected the sentiments of defence personnel," said Col Vinod Falnikar of Purva Sainik Seva Parishad. The ABPSSP and PSSP will host Virat Dwitiya Mahasammelan at Swaminarayan Temple in Vadtal in Anand between October 2 and 4.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar will attend the sammelan on October 4 apart from several ex-servicemen. "This sammelan is held every 10 years and Gujarat is hosting it for the first time. We discuss and talk about national interest, social interests and the army's interests during the sammelan. We have 75,000 members, including families of ex-servicemen in ABPSS across the country of which 4,500 are in Gujarat," said ex-MLA Haresh Bhatt of ABPSS.
