Ex-Indian army men warn of protest over pension

Photo: Rishi Ram BaralPOKHARA: Nepali ex-Indian Army men, who are deprived of their pension, warned of protests by putting forth an eight-point charter of demands for an easy access to pension, in Pokhara.
 
In a press conference organised by Nepali Ex-Indian Army Struggle Committee, Gandaki- Dhaulagiri chapter, informed that more than 50,000 widows of Nepali ex-Indian army men are deprived of the pension after the difficulty in producing required documents.
 
 
The problem surfaced after the Indian government demanded inclusion of Nepali citizenship certificate in an application for the pension to the Nepali ex-Indian Army, who were recruited before 1990, without the Nepali citizenship certificate.

After the demand of unnecessary documents by the Indian government, the families of old Nepali ex-Indian Army
men are deprived of the pension.
 
Earlier, a secretary level meeting of the two neighbouring countries had decided for simplification of the pension application process. However, the decision is yet to be implemented, causing problems to get the pension.
